It's not a matter of remembering 9.11 and the victims of 9.11...
WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER.
The question is how do 'We' take one of the most painful chapters of The American Experience and finally become better for having had the experience.
Obviously, all of America would have prevented the attack if we could. But it's too late for that. For US it becomes how we respond to 9.11 and what good becomes of America because of our actions and reactions.
So far, we aren't looking so good, are we?
America is at War with Herself and Our Leaders have exposed their intent to keep US that Way.
We have had very painful chapters before and almost always grown stronger from them but not this one, not yet anyway.
But today is a new day for America. I'm thinking about the lives lost then and about the lives lost now and how things go bad and about how things go right and that Good is the exact opposite of Evil.
That would be a Good place for America to Start Over...

AS GOES AMERICA SO GOES THE WORLD
America’s last moment of true unity was in the immediate aftermath of 9.11.
It didn’t last long.
On 9.11 we received a deep, unimaginable blow.
We all did. All at the same time.
For a short while what followed was beautiful. We couldn’t help but see the humanity in each other. We were kind to each other in ways we hadn’t been before the attack.
The Trauma we shared changed how we saw ourselves and everyone around us.
It didn’t last long.
All together in the two and a half decades since 9.11 we intentionally and unintentionally brought out the worst in each other.
We became a different people.
Our new tech made it easy.
Somehow… WE THE PEOPLE… became superspreaders of endless Darkness, Division, Hate and War.
Some of us intentionally became this way for power. Some for profit. Some for privilege.
Some of us unintentionally became this way because we didn't believe we could do anything about it.
Here we are 25 years after 9.11 and America is still at war in The Middle East only instead of chasing a relative handful of Al Qaeda terrorists from cave to cave in Afghanistan, we are at war with a formidable Terrorist nation state.
And instead of any sense of American unity, we are destroying ourselves from the inside out with endless manifestations of darkness, division, hate and war…
and self-destructive politics.
YES. There are people to blame.
Yes. Terrible mistakes and betrayals were made.
But WE have tried The Blame Game. It makes it all worse.
We must stop The Blame Game.
NOW… 25 years after 9.11...
Osama bin Laden is winning.
Because WE are DOING more to destroy America than anything he could have ever imagined possible.
What Osama bin Laden did 25 years ago was put America on a new path and we have remained there. Living his “way”.
We must NOT allow Osama bin Laden to win.

When political divisions threaten to tear us apart, we will measure them against our BHAG and recognize that many are just distractions from the larger work we must do.
When we confront America’s affordability crisis, we will understand that the only sustainable path to lower American costs… is broader opportunity and greater peace and stability in America and around the world.

Our BHAG does not require us to be perfect. It requires us to be purposeful.
It does not promise easy answers.
It demands that we rise above small thinking and all this short-term nonsense.

With a MASSIVE explosion of Light.
And a beautiful new sense of what it means to be an American.
