For lots of reasons this Humpty Dumpty Metaphor is a terrible metaphor. But with a little imagination it helps to give us the new perspective that we need right now:
all the King’s horses and all the King’s men couldn’t put “Humpty” back together again.
Because American Greatness was always a true people-driven alchemical miracle that could never be pieced back together again by anyone.
No matter who tried or how great a King might be.

And gain access to a new type of Emotional Intelligence that just wasn’t available to ANYONE before the idea that “all men are created equal” was let loose on The World.

America’s last moment of true unity was in the immediate aftermath of 9.11.
It didn’t last long.
On 9.11 we received a deep, unimaginable blow.
We all did. All at the same time.
For a short while what followed was beautiful. We couldn’t help but see the humanity in each other. We were kind to each other in ways we hadn’t been before the attack.
The Trauma we shared changed how we saw ourselves and everyone around us.
It didn’t last long.
All together in the two and a half decades since 9.11 we intentionally and unintentionally brought out the worst in each other.
We became a different people.
Our new tech made it easy.
Somehow… WE THE PEOPLE… became superspreaders of endless Darkness, Division, Hate and War.
Some of us intentionally became this way for power. Some for profit. Some for privilege.
Some of us unintentionally became this way because we didn't believe we could do anything about it.
Here we are 25 years after 9.11 and America is still at war in The Middle East only instead of chasing a relative handful of Al Qaeda terrorists from cave to cave in Afghanistan, we are at war with a formidable Terrorist nation state.
And instead of any sense of American unity, we are destroying ourselves from the inside out with endless manifestations of darkness, division, hate and war…
and self-destructive politics.
YES. There are people to blame.
Yes. Terrible mistakes and betrayals were made.
But WE have tried The Blame Game. It makes it all worse.
We must stop The Blame Game.
NOW… 25 years after 9.11...
Osama bin Laden is winning.
Because WE are DOING more to destroy America than anything he could have ever imagined possible.
What Osama bin Laden did 25 years ago was put America on a new path and we have remained there. Living his “way”.

By choosing this BHAG, America gives ourselves and the world a new frame for making decisions.
When we have elections, we will no longer default to the lesser of two evils. We will choose leaders best equipped to advance our BHAG.
When we consider another war, we will ask whether it serves our BHAG or wastes the resources and lives that could be used to build real peace and shared prosperity.
When political divisions threaten to tear us apart, we will measure them against our BHAG and recognize that many are just distractions from the larger work we must do.
When we confront America’s affordability crisis, we will understand that the only sustainable path to lower American costs… is broader opportunity and greater peace and stability in America and around the world.
Through the success of our BHAG.
Our BHAG does not require us to be perfect. It requires us to be purposeful.
It does not promise easy answers.
It demands that we rise above small thinking and all this short-term nonsense.
