Open Letter to The Good People of Reading MA
Dear Friends, Neighbors, Teachers, Coaches, First Responders, and Quiet Heroes of Reading, MA:
I’m writing this with a full heart and a sense of wonder I can barely contain.
You may not realize it, but something extraordinary has happened because of you.
What began in an ordinary American town, a place where cops, teachers, firefighters, nurses, and working families built something better than what they inherited… has quietly become the seed of a much larger story.
A story that now reaches far beyond the roads of Reading. A story that, by some cosmic twist of fate, has become my life’s work and, I believe, part of America’s next chapter.
So today I want to say thank you.
Thank you, Harry O., for pushing a young kid who couldn’t yet see his own potential.
Thank you, Mrs. M., for opening the eyes of “little Billy Keefe” to the idea that he could live a big life with hard work and a little help.
Thank you to The Team… my friends, who pushed me to be better.
Thank you to The B’s, who brought Light and warm meals into our home year after year when my mother was sick, making sure my father and I never felt alone.
And thank you to every parent, coach, teacher, neighbor, and caregiver who simply showed up and made Reading a place where the American Dream still felt real and reachable.
You didn’t set out to change the world.
You set out to make our small corner of it better.
And in doing so, you planted something profound in me.
That something is The Power of Reading.
Not just the act of picking up a book, though that matters more than most people realize right now. But the deeper spirit of Reading itself. The spirit that says: We don’t have to accept the world as we found it. We can make our piece of it better for everyone.
For two and a half decades since 9/11, America has been drowning in darkness, division, endless war, eroded dreams, cynicism, and noise. The list of what’s wrong feels endless. Fixing any single item on that list seems impossible because everything is connected, and our attempts to fix things often just add more darkness.
So, I asked myself the question you taught me to ask:
What if, instead of fighting the darkness one problem at a time, we simply brought out the best in everyone and let the Light do the rest?
That question led me back to you. Back to Reading. Back to the wisdom I learned on your fields, in your classrooms, and around your kitchen tables.
Reading (the town) showed me what is possible when ordinary people choose to build something better.
Reading (the act) is now the metaphor and the method for healing a nation: the quiet, sustained, deeply personal work of clearing the “dark shit” out of our heads and filling our heads with better ideas, better stories, and better possibilities.
By some cosmic twist of fate, the lessons I learned in our town became the foundation for everything I’ve built since… The 7 New Ways, Strategic Equality, The Dream Feeder tech startup, and The Campaign to Help Save the American Dream.
None of it would exist without the example you set.
So, this open letter is a thank you to the good people of Reading, Massachusetts.
You showed how to make America better on a small scale.
Now the rest of America needs to learn what you taught me too.
The Power of Reading is the starting point of our national renewal.
If enough of us read and share better ideas, push out the darkness, and choose to bring out the best in one another… no exceptions… then the bandwidth we need to fix what’s broken will finally appear.
Reading, you gave me that belief.
You gave me the proof that ordinary people, choosing Light over Darkness in their own small corner, can change the trajectory of something much larger.
For that, I will be forever grateful.

It’s time to bring out the best in Americans in every city and town and state in America. Everyone. No exceptions.
It’s the only way to actually fix what’s gone wrong in America. The list of things that have gone wrong is too long and everything on that list is extremely complicated to fix and the list of people doing harm to America is…
Well, if you actually look at that list of all the people doing harm to America that list looks endless. It looks impossible. Especially impossible given how divided we all are right now. And how many people are so invested in keeping us that way.
So much is going wrong and because it’s all so complicated… often times what we do to try and fix things… in one way or another just makes it all worse.
We all know we need to do something to SAVE America so we continue to make things worse because at least we are trying to do something.
Even if we do more harm to America than good.
Which brings us back to the idea that it’s time to bring out the best in everyone. No exceptions.
We have reached the point where we MUST try to fix it all… all at the same time… because anything less than that won’t create the type of bandwidth that we need to solve even ONE of our smallest problems.
We have the tech we need to fix it all… all at the same time, but until now what we have lacked is the ideas we need to unite America and bring out the best in everyone during such complicated times.
By some Cosmic Twist of Fate creating the MASSIVE cache of ideas we need right now to fix America became my life’s work.

They tried to 'shock and awe' the world into submission with a massive show of force in Iraq and then they tried to decapitate 'the enemy' by assassinating their leadership with precision drone strikes that weren't nearly as precise as American leaders claimed they were- all the while they tried to hide the true nature of our hyper-surveillance state.

And I saw things that quite frankly scared the Hell out of me.
Since 9.11… instead of understanding that with our incredible new technology… Modernity Emerged... America’s civilian political leadership just made more and more war and trauma and more and more Darkness.
Our leaders never prepared US for this difficult transition into modern life. What OUR politicians did was divide US with one ‘wedge issue’ after another.
Americans everywhere were not and still are not prepared for how expensive Modernity really is. I’m not talking ‘Inflation’ expensive. What I’m talking about is how expensive it is to survive in Modernity let alone thrive.
What scared the Hell out of me?
Everywhere I look on this Odyssey of mine, one way or another I see people being destroyed by… The DARK.
All races. All income levels. In the country, suburbs and cities in America people are being destroyed by The DARK. As The Dark manifests and spreads through modern technology.
TRUE. The well-off had little financial difficulty making the financial transition into Modernity. But The Dark spared no one with The Rise of Darkness, Division, Hate & War…
And The Opioid Crisis…
And The Mass Shootings Crisis...
And All The Trauma.
And we all see it and still, today all we do now is fight and call each other Evil.

American Capitalism and Democracy as we have always known them are on the verge of becoming failed experiments. Both are being replaced. What we will call what replaces them remains to be seen but in the 25 years since 9.11 The American Left and The American Right have been co-creators of a democracy that no longer works and a citizenry that can’t afford to make this very expensive transition into Modernity.
We are on the verge of an irreparable break.
What's the solution?

It's folly to believe our current political leaders have the will or ability to solve these problems.
Today a new media company can do what our current political system cannot. A media company can unite US with much, much better ideas and by telling The Truth.
That’s what Freice Media can do that no one else can do.
Socialism and Authoritarianism are both about top-down control (less individual freedom and responsibility) and in one way or another in 2025 both are rising.
This moment screams for a new American narrative that takes all the good and bad of our shared history and repurposes it all to bind Americans to each other in a way we have never been.
The Sacred Promise: America's Unfinished Hero's Journey
One Nation... Indivisible because of The Sacred Promise of Equality for ALL, unknowingly forced upon its citizens a choice to fulfill that promise or not. On Independence Day, The Founders of America began a "Hero's Journey" for future Americans to complete, heaping inspired enlightenment upon the Souls of Man who unleash The Power of Equality or rage and fury upon those who tarnish The Beacon of Hope.
Once proclaimed "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights" unprecedented societal and technological advancement finally began.
Unimaginable in the previous thousand years an unyielding transformational progress forged new intellectual boundaries and expectations in mere decades. Yet our awe-inspiring nature was exposed only after the minds of women were awakened and the contributions from everyone were included... no matter the color of their skin.
Our enduring failure is the failure to understand that Our Institutions never cede power until they must... for their own good. Never has any government official, social elite or so-called "political visionary" freed the talents and contributions of oppressed and depressed Americans.
Instead, time after time, change only came when previously disenfranchised individuals made the choice to declare a personal liberty... born out of the same Essence of Equality which gave life to America through the signing of The Declaration of Independence.
Some will point to Our history with Slavery, Native Americans, Women's Rights, Poverty, Civil Rights and use of Nuclear Weapons and say we have not the Moral Authority to speak of Equality.
I say quite the contrary, for it is by way of shame, horror and manipulation that we Earned Our most valuable and indisputable Truths. In other words, we needed our failures first... in order 'to bring great light and beauty into the world'.
In Our Infamy... Truth and Wisdom have been seared into America's fundamental Essence and because of this when we lose sight of the truth, fail to ensure equal benefit to all or even worse ignore truth in favor of manipulation and selfish-interest... almost on cue peril and conflict return to us again and again.
After each and every clash of "American Contradictions" came the lessons... indelibly learned and soon thereafter came the new strength and inspiration of so many Americans who found their strength and equality only after the conflict was resolved.
Once established here in America... the new "truth" as it became known, also began to stir the best of humanity throughout the willing parts of the world... and now finally, "The Truth" about The American Way is spreading into The Middle East.
Remember This: The words of a bigot when proven wrong in America... give everlasting light to the Truth Everywhere!
Over time and fight after fight... We all might discover that the Truth about the future of mankind resides in the idea that if not for all... then for none, and that the 'American Way' isn't just for US. The problem is, right now America is getting too many things wrong to inspire all the good that The Idea of America should.
As in the time of Our Founders, it's "The People" who must demonstrate The 'magical' Idea of America to a World who so anxiously awaits word from America that still rooted in the collective Freedom, Faith and Courage of "The People"... is the power of our convictions.
Until then and forever, look to the horizon and past the tribulation and pain. See the beauty in each rise and fall of the sun. See the same beauty in each spark of light in the eyes of those who you love. Look long and look deep and don't be surprised when you finally see...
